Electrical Inspections

Electrical wires in a barn housing animals can become corroded by the environment, resulting in increased resistance and heat. If the heat is near a fuel source, it can start a fire. Wiring can also be chewed by rodents. All rodents must chew to keep their teeth trimmed, as they continue to grow for their lifetime. Rodents seem to like to chew on wires, not just in barns, but in houses, too. The damaged wires can aslo overheat and cause a fire.

Having a qualified electrician do an on site inspection not only makes sense, but can also lead to a significant reduction in insurance premiums. Some insurance companies will even pay for the inspection.

One of the tools that inspectors use is a thermographic camera that can show "hot spots" in the electrical equipment that are not visible to the naked eye.

Of course, having an inspection is useless without fixing the identified problems. Although it is tempting to do it oneself, it is imperative to have all electrical work done by a licensed electrician.
